The Past
Kevin M. Higgins, born and raised in Girard, Pennsylvania, moved to Brunswick, Georgia and attended The Savannah College of Art and Design in 1986. While still attending SCAD, Mr. Higgins was introduced to the distinguished architect, William Frank McCall from Moultrie, Georgia. Higgins was hired to assist a new intern, John P. Shackelford, with a new branch office on St. Simons Island, Georgia. On May 31, 1988, Higgins began his architectural career, hand-drafting estate residential projects for Sea Island, Georgia and throughout the southeast, while still attending architecture school at SCAD.​With McCall's passing in 1991, and having recently graduated with a Masters of Architecture Degree, Kevin Higgins agreed to stay with newly-licensed architect John Shackelford, as Shackelford decided to stay on St. Simons Island and open his own architectural firm in January 1992. During this period of transition, in May 1991, his experience and knowledge of architecture and design had blossomed to be a valuable asset to the newly-established John P. Shackelford, Architect, P.C. For the next several years, Higgins watched his responsibilities at the firm increase. In the mid-nineties, he taught himself DataCAD drafting software, forever digitizing the design process. Gradually the emphasis shifted from drafting, to design, to direct client and contractor interaction, and later jobsite observation and project management.
The Present
By the early 2000’s, Shackelford had ventured into regions of northeast Florida - so in June 2002 Kevin Higgins completed all Florida requirements and was registered as an architect. Shortly thereafter, he became a licensed architect in his home state of Georgia. After almost sixteen years, Kevin Higgins was ready to take his knowledge and experience to the next level. On March 1, 2004, he launched Kevin M. Higgins, Architect, P.C.​ Still a single-person firm, Higgins prides himself in providing individual attention to each client. He strives to provide architectural services for each project, using his knowledge and experience to provide a finished project in which all can be proud while keeping the client’s needs at the forefront. Further, he endeavors to be conscious of the client’s timeframe, turning projects around in as timely a manner as possible.​ Kevin Higgins has completed varying projects in South Georgia, North Florida, and surrounding areas since 2004. From small residential renovations and additions, to large estate homes, to commercial build-outs, to worship facilities - no project is too small or too large. I look forward to serving the southeast and beyond for many years to come.
